Fall Feels: Our Autumn Theme

What’s going on? It’s JESS!

Fall…we know the vibes. Leaves are changing, days are getting shorter, we’re hanging up our shorts and tanks and replacing them with sweaters and pants. Replacing summer squash for pumpkins, tropical flavors for warm spices, stiff air for the cool breeze. The shift isn’t just in the weather, it’s on the inside. It’s in our being.

This month we switched from our summer bucket list to fall feels. There’s a number of reasons we chose to take that approach to this season. First, many of us shift into seasonal stuff. For some, it’s a sense of calm and slowing down. For others, it may be a time of year we struggle with Seasonal Affective Disorder. And for even more of us, it can be both. A time for joy and release but also a time of sorrow and deep feels. What I hope to invite you into is connection at the deepest level.

SIGH. The feels.

Talk time:

I’ve been reflecting on what it means to be. To put both feet on the ground entirely. To stand tall and strong while remaining soft.

Take a deep breath in and feel the pelvic floor release…the glutes relax. Exhaling and placing the feet into the earth with intention while maintaining the relaxation in the pelvic floor. Releasing the pent up energy held in the pelvic floor that is unreleased.

That’s bearing down and letting go in our bodies. It’s a simple cue to remind us to let go of what has been held in and open up to what can be.

My head and heart space are in a constant state of realigning. It shows up when I want to move really fast (heart space) and the timing isn’t quite right (head space.) It shows up when I want to go live on IG and air out my latest whatever (heart space) but I know I need some time to process (head space.) It shows up when I want to turn my phone off and cry for an entire day (heart space) but I have to tend to my family (head space.)

Both are valid. Both reign true. And they often conflict and compete. BUT…sometimes it aligns. The head and the heart have a conversation and both agree.

Timing and speed.

Airing out and fully processing in real time.

Phone off, crying and tending to family.

It isn’t about the movement, it’s about the cadence. It’s about the rhythm. It’s the ebb and flow.

A great example of that is when I took over the gym. It was aligned from the beginning and then there were moments it misaligned. Speeding ahead, then slowing down to allow the mind to catch up.

I NEVER WANTED TO OWN A GYM. My mind was made up about that. But my heart had a different plan. And my mind had to catch up a little bit. How is this going to happen? How is this going to work? What if? My heart led the way and my mind did eventually get the memo and allowed my heart to do its thing.

I don’t regret a thing.

Has it been hard? Yes. Have I cried a lot? Yes. Does my mind still second guess? Yes. Does my mind still question ALL THE THINGS? Of course.

The nuance and the balance between the two comes with self reflection. Asking yourself the hard questions. Understanding that the conflict exists for a reason. It’s real. You’re not wrong to have two VERY different wants or desires.

I challenge you to dive into your heart in this season. To tap into it. To show it love. To validate it.

The feels.

In a world that tells us we need to “think everything through,” sometimes processing has to catch up to what you FEEL is the best thing to do to move forward in a meaningful way.

Take a moment for yourself. Just a beat. Feel the feels. Acknowledge them. Honor them. Embrace them. They are VERY real.

My question to you is: how are you taking care of yourself in this season? And by your SELF, I mean, that heart space.

Feeling feels for fall.
