About Kate:

Kate Moore is the owner of getFIT615, a group fitness gym in Nashville, TN. Kate believes that our bodies are made for movement and empowers her students to love and care for them in a way that feels completely authentic. Authenticity is a key word for Kate in everything she does. And something she found out early on is that authenticity means learning to saying no, a lot.

Her topic: Being a Yes to Saying No

Is it crazy to say that me being part of PREVAIL was inspired by Big Sean’s song “I don’t F**k with you?” Well, it’s exactly why I’m excited to be part of PREVAIL. I have a quick blog post about this song, and it got a lot of attention. A quick excerpt: If this doesn't speak to the reality of boundaries and opportunity costs and the importance of saying no then I don’t know what does! I’m really looking forward to saying to someone or something one day, very calmly, “I’ve got a million trillion things that I’d rather f**king do than to be f**king with you. And I mean that in the nicest way possible. It’s just that I’ve got a million things on my mind and limited amounts of time and this just isn’t how I’m willing to spend my f**ks these days.”

Boundaries are hugely important in running your own business (and your own life) - and learning how to set them kindly is something that I do all day every day. When I first opened my business, I was a “yes” person. I wanted to be involved in every single thing all the time. And then I learned that, in the words of Mark Manson, if it’s not a “f**k yes, it’s a no.” And that’s when it really clicked for me: In order for me to continue being authentic, I was going to have to learn how to say no. It’s important to note that I’m still a yes person! I’m just saying yes to things that are authentic to me and to my business. By saying no when I need to, I am creating the space to say yes to the things that really matter.
