Let's Talk About Connection

Human beings are wired for connection. Jessi Schlachter taught us this - but when you smile and make eye contact with someone, there are actually mirror neurons in our brains that make it more likely that that person will smile back at us. These mirror neurons help us read and understand each other - we’re programmed in that way. The best way for us to heal from pain, from heartache, or from trauma isn’t time - it’s true connection with someone else or a group of people - it’s feeling a sense of belonging. What’s so cool about us working out in the same space together is that we’re really all here for ourselves, but instinctually, and innately, we’re here for each other too. We’re here to benefit from the other energy in the room, and we’re here to share our own.

Connection can’t happen over instagram - sure, initial connection can and that’s actually so amazing that we have that at the tip of our fingertips. But true vulnerable and real connection happens in person - when we’re able to see each other, and be with each other’s energy.

So with courage, with gratitude, with the understanding of many types of privilege you have in your life, with compassion, reach out to someone with whom you’d like to connect and talk. Get coffee, go for a walk, invite them over for dinner… and then talk about real stuff.

And then do it again.
